Cities throughout Brevard County especially on the mainland like melbourne, palm bay, viera, rockledge, cocoa and titusville frequently experience bat problems in soffits, siding, and attics because local bat species like Mexican and Brazilian free tailed bats thrive in the Space Coast due to the environment, insects and homes with construction gaps that unintentionally mimic their natural roosting sites.
Signs Of Bats In Your Neighborhood?
Here’s what to do: If your neighborhood is having bat infestations in its homes then it would be a good idea to inspect your soffit, roof line, siding and roof vents for any potential holes. Remember if your fingers can fit in the gap then a bat will probably have no problem usingthearea as an entry. If you find any holes during inspection, be sure to seal them immediately or hire a company like ours to prevent such bat infestations.

bat Signs!
One of the biggest least know bat signs are black stains near your houses entry points. That can also be accompanied by guano and bat urine. Bats are notorious for their well known screaming sounds that can be very disturbing, listen for these especially at night! If you see an unsecured attic vent, make sure they are not entering through that area, if they are you may have a big hidden infestation. Many times you can see these signs behind your shutters or on your porch. Bats can carry many diseases so please call Eraticators today if you think you may have bats in your roof!
DIY Bat Removal
1. Identify where the bat colony is entering the home.
- Look for bat droppings (guano) around entry points.
- Watch your house at dusk or dawn to see where bats are flying in or out.
- Common entry spots: roof drip edges, attic vents, chimneys, gaps in siding, or loose soffit.
2. Do not trap or kill them
- Killing bats is illegal in most places.
- Trapping inside can cause them to die in your walls, leading to odors and more problems.
3. Time it right
- Avoid exclusion during maternity season (usually April 15th spring to August 15th mid-summer), when baby bats can’t fly yet.
- Best time: late summer through early fall, or early spring.
4. Seal entry points (after they leave)
- Install one-way exclusion devices (like bat cones or netting) on main exit holes.
- Bug screen, landscape fabric or flashing
- These let bats fly out but not back in.
- Leave in place for 5–7 nights to ensure all have exited.
- Once the bats are gone its very important to permanently seal holes with caulk, hardware cloth, or flashing.
- Seal all cracks larger than ½ inch.
- Add chimney caps and attic vent covers.
- Ensure soffits and rooflines are tight.
6. Bat Guano Clean up safely
- Bat guano can carry histoplasmosis spores.
- Wear gloves, p100 pro mask, and protective clothing when cleaning.
- Before disturbing guano make sure to saturate with a disinfectant (2oz per gallon) or a bleach solution (1:10 mix) or industrial strength disinfectant you can purchase at your local harware store.
- Bag and dispose of droppings properly.
7. Encourage bats to live elsewhere
- Consider putting up a bat house away from your home.
- This gives them a safe roost and keeps them out of your attic.
