About Opossums

Virginia or North American Opossum (or possum) is a marsupial found in North America. Opossums are the only marsupial found north of Mexico. They are primarily omnivorous in terms of diet. As well, they prefer to move from place to place using trees. Opossums are famous for their tendency to play dead (or play possum). Nocturnal and solitary, opossums are the size of a domestic cat. As well, opossums are successful opportunists and scavengers. Attics are a great location to birth and raise offspring. So, most Attic Opossum Infestations are a female and her young.

Opossum Removal

Opossums are scavengers, which is what can make them problematic. They will go through trash, steal pet food, and more. Opossums can leave a nasty bite if cornered by a pet such as a dog! They carry various fleas and parasites, transferred to you, your home, and your pets. Opossums can create openings into walls and attics. When this happens, they leave a lot of feces and urine behind. Common opossum home removal methods involve scaring them. However, many home DIY methods are ineffective. These methods include strobe lights, mothballs, and ammonia. Methods such as these don’t work! Therefore, removal of Opossums is best done by a professional, such as ourselves. We will humanely trap and relocate your Opossums. Then, we will seal the point(s) of entry so that no new families move in.

Opossum Signs!

Opossums are the version of Possums you will find here in Florida.  With these marsupials, the infestation of your home or building structure should be very apparent.  Many Opossums are very loud and aren’t as nocturnal as many other pests. They usually start by damaging your exterior to get inside, so look for signs of damage to your house, or noises in the attic.  Watch for any of your pet food to go missing. Opossums love pet food and will eat almost anything! Opossums make many weird noises, and often. If you hear some weird shreks or continuous sounds through the day, you may need to get Opossums removed immediately.  Opossums have very large scratching claws to defend themself and search for food, listen for noises in rooms and in the attic especially. The worst part of a Opossum infestation has to be the smell. Be careful as they can be dangerous, call Eraticators immediately if you see one!
